Security Experts at Finjan have discovered a global network of compromised machines infected with Botnet controls. These include some within US and UK government sites – although this has not been confirmed by officials. Sources highlight the size of the network to be of significant importance as it demonstrates the huge potential for widespread infection of unprotected devices.
Once a computer has been infected with code, as part of a Botnet deployment, it can be remotely instructed to carry out a range of tasks varying from the disclosure of information contained on the device, to forming part of a larger attack on another target.
